When it comes to selling comic books, you usually have to make the trade-off of selling the quick and easy way for a low price or taking the difficult and time-consuming path to selling for a better price.
(That is unless you sell directly to us at Sparkle City Comics! More on that below.)
Selling directly to a collector is one of the ways to balance that trade-off nicely, however it takes a lot of know-how as well as a little bit of luck.
Here’s the Sparkle City Comics guide to selling your comics to a local collector near you:
In this article
First Organize What You Own
This step is mainly for those who have a large collection. Occasionally reviewing what you own is always good, especially prior to selling items off face-to-face. Maybe the potential buyer asks if you have something else. Or you realize while speaking with them that they may also be interested in something else you have but didn’t originally consider selling. Hopefully your comics are already stored and organized properly. If so, this step will take much less time, plus it means your comics are probably worth more since they most likely avoiding any visible aging.
Then Decide What You Are Selling And What You Are Keeping
Once everything is organized, take a look through and figure out what you’re selling, what you’d consider selling and what you definitely won’t sell no matter what. It’s always good to have this internal dialog with yourself prior to any negotiations so you don’t do something on a whim you may regret later.
Then Identify Local Comic Book Collectors Who May Be Interested
Once you have a list of the items you want to sell, start looking around for the right collectors who may want to purchase them from you. Ask around at places like your local comic book store, local collecting clubs and local auction houses. Local Facebook and Linkedin Groups are also great places for this.
Then Reach Out To Them To Present What You’re Selling
Once you know which collectors you want to reach out to, go ahead and reach out! Try to provide as much information upfront as possible, including images if you’re reaching out via email. Keep an open mind but also be clear with what you’re looking for and stress your open to negotiations. Then let the conversation go from there.
